I was never a fan of Andrew Breitbart’s style or his politics, but it’s still tragic when someone dies so young, at what may have been the height of his career. If there’s a place after this one, I hope he finds peace there. The founder of Big Government and a host of other conservative blogs was 43.

This in the wake of the recent rant makes me wonder if he had a chronic condition of some sort…
It’s a pity he died with so much hatred and anger.
Nob:
What makes you say he was filled with anger? Is the fact he was conservative enough to say that? That seems like the typical liberal blather that all conservatives are hate filled racists.
That’s right. In observing that Breitbart was demonstrably possessed of no small amount of hate and anger (c’mon, surely you’ve seen the CPAC video if nothing else), Nob was clearly implying that all conservatives are hate-filled racists.
Your comment seems like typical … eh, nevermind. No need for me to spell it out.
Scott, I think Breitbart was the perfect example of the anger that undergirds much of the conservative movement these days. Contrast him with, say, George Will.
Erik:
He may have been angry but really, so what is wrong with that? What I find hypocritical is that conservatives are angry for no good reason but when liberals are angry it is good b/c that are possessed by righteous anger in their battle for the poor, oppressed, downtrodden, etc.
Not true. It really, really just depends. Sometimes I think both sides are right to be pissed off. Other times they’re wrong, or too over the top. Whatever. The problem wasn’t his anger – it was that it made him seem unhinged. He didn’t have self control.
Andrew Breitbart is considered a happy warrior by consensus by those in the know. And that’s no joke. The difference of opinion here is basically the difference between people who think totalitarian Leftist policies are good vs people who think they are bad. There is no common cause and thus no communication.
The post from Breitbart’s BG website:
“Andrew passed away unexpectedly from natural causes shortly after midnight this morning in Los Angeles.”
Included in the same post, a recent quote from Breitbart:
“At the end of the day, I can look at myself in the mirror, and I sleep very well at night.”
Perhaps he didn’t sleep nearly as well as he thought he did.
While I have never entertained any secret wish for Breitbart to stumble across a strategically placed bus, I have likewise never held any appreciation for him as a human being. He was a despicable man, having nothing to do with his politics and everything to do with his callous and altogether slimy character.
And so, while I do genuinely feel sympathy for the people who loved him who, of course, mourn his passing, I won’t waste a moment of my day mourning the unexpectedly early demise of this despicable person, any more than I’d mourn the death of any other despicable person.
What you call tragic, I’m inclined to call karmic justice. Then again, I’m not really inclined to call it anything, because I don’t view his death as more noteworthy than, simply, another one bites the dust.
It’s his family and friends I mourn for the most. The man had children.
Of course. I mean, to my mind, among decent people, genuine sympathy for family goes without saying. But just in case there should be any misunderstanding, I said it anyway.
“What you call tragic, I’m inclined to call karmic justice. ”
Hang on, I thought that celebrating the death of political opponents was an awful thing to do that promoted separatism and violence. I mean, wasn’t that what everyone said after Gabrielle Giffords got shot?
So, the fact that I’m not mourning Breitbart’s death means that I must be celebrating it? Really?
Also, I’m having a hard time understanding the instructive parallel that you’re apparently drawing between between Breitbart’s natural death and the violent assault on Giffords.
This is a good example of how Leftist propaganda and Main Sewer media can so degrade a person’s judgment that you have people thinking they know a stranger well enough to judge them.
The political aspect stops when the tragedy of drug abuse takes the stage — cocaine doesn’t give a shit if you are Red, Blue or Purple. Whether he was a coke addict or not, or even if that was his drug of choice, it was clear he had a problem — he also had a heart condition and the two don’t mix. I don’t mess with anything anymore, but I had a quintuple bypass about 8 years ago — Breitbart bypassed the bypass and went straight to death.
All very true, Mike.
That’s an interesting rumor. Where did you hear about this drug abuse in the first place?
I have zero problems about celebrating the death of this vile coke-addicted prick. No one should expect any sympathy. After all, he publicly denigrated Sen. Kennedy after his passing. When alive he added nothing but poison and vitriol to the debate.
This sort of sentiment – in both you and Breitbart, apparently – says more about those who keep it than about the ones its held against.
PD:
I didn’t realize that Teddy, that drunken, lecherous, misogynist who should have been found guilty of homicide was such a paragon of virtue.
NOW and feminists called Ted Kennedy a ‘Lion of a Man’ and often mentioned that the girl he drove under the bridge and drowned, should be proud that she was able to launch the career of someone who did so much for feminism and women’s rights.
That’s what they said, at least.
A married man with four Children out walking the streets after midnight…wondering who he was meeting up with, I had a friend (46 Yrs old) who didn’t drink or smoke but he just couldn’t get enough at home…. so he is out one night and picked up this chick on the street, Had a heart attack and died in the front seat of his truck while getting a BJ…. police found him with his junk hanging out….
